Nasty
Packages
Where
do I begin with “Nasty Packages?” After our first CD, we were
pumped to do the process all over again. We had received terrific
acceptance from fans and industry professionals alike for our
first attempt, which gave us a nice warm fuzzy. We were getting
international airplay and great reviews from important music
critics in major publications. We were learning about the business
end of our passion and the things we were finding out supported
what we knew all along and those are: This is a HARD way to make
money. Music eats it’s young. The highs and lows are so far
removed as to not even be within sight of each other. Music
consumes your heart and mind, your time, your wallet contents,
your waking hours and a major portion of your actual dreams at
night. In short, Music is a Nasty Package!

The Maynard
Brothers Band
On their
self-titled album, the Johnsonville, New York-based Maynard Brothers Band
delivered a robust mix of rough blues and blistering rock, never fully
delving into one without exploring the fringes of the other. The trio
played with a tightness and intensity not often found on debut recordings,
which isn't surprising given that the group's members had played for 30
years around upstate New York before making it into the studio.
Performances are fine throughout - Erv Maynard's manic guitar solo on I
Want to Be Your Man evokes prime Johnny Winter, and drummer Harold Reiser
keeps a dependable groove -- but what set the disc apart from other
regional blues releases was the quality of Maynard's compositions. The
richness of metaphor in Don't Call It Love, the wry vulnerability of
Better Things to Do, and the uncanny mood-setting of No Devils pointed to
a songwriter not content to stay within the increasingly narrow confines
of standard blues-rock fare. The Maynards' vocals, while adequate, hadn't
quite caught up with the other aspects of their musicianship; still, the
band's debut showed that roadhouse raunch didn't have to be puerile, and
it did so without sacrificing fierceness or grit. ~ Kenneth Bays, All
Music Guide

Erv
Here - I want to acknowledge a few folks who’ve kept me believing in one thing
or another these many years. This is risky business, I know, but if your
name isn’t here, I hope I’ve already told you in person. If I
haven’t, bring it to my attention next time you see me!
Here
we go: Mom, Ana & Frank, The Burns family, Heriberto Recio, Jim
Uhlenkamp, Jason Thompson, The boys from Big Bob & the Tube Drivers
and Noose, Tommie’s Tavern in Schaghticoke NY (518-753-4420) and all the
regular MBB fans and supporters there, Rebecca & Sam, Teresa &
Ken, Maud and the rest of my whole crazy bunch of brothers, sisters,
cousins and nieces and nephews, Spike, all of my understanding and patient
neighbors over the years (Kim & Gerard, Beth & Ray!), all of my
AF, USA, USN, & USMC buddies from Louisiana to Iceland to Hawaii (ECMC
rocked) to Europe and Asia, and a whole lot of places in between, Keep
safe. But, mostly, I want to thank my beautiful wife – my
life,…Catherine.
