Erv's
description of "Down To The River" was part of the
band's promo kit for their first CD.

"An
eerie acoustic with dark themes and no winners. This one
scares you along a terrible path to a disturbing conclusion.
Haunting B-3 organ and incredible vocals. Goosebumps"

“What
To Do” was written after a conversation Cat and I had one
night. The question is asked: “What are you going to do
when I’m dead?” It’s a simple question, but I think it
holds some really complex insights into issues of self
importance, independence, co-dependence, worthiness….that
kind of crap. It’s about how you see yourself, and what
impact your leaving would REALLY have on people around you.
But, what difference is it going to make to you, anyway? I
mean, will you ever know? When you die, are you just dead?
And, if you DO somehow find out what happens after you die,
will it suck more if people are totally devastated by your
passing, OR if folks are able to get along just fine without
you? How important do you want to be?
Jeff
added a different feel to the song than I had originally
intended by just changing one line. I asked: “Could you
live without me, would I die without you?”. Jeff leaves no
such unanswered, open-ended bullshit. He says: “… I’d
DIE without you!”. That’s an interesting and dramatic
change to the way I approached it. I think it probably lends
some insight into our two personalities…. but I’m not
sure I like what it implies about me……… |
